Getting married in spring of 2020? Or 2020? With all of the closures & public bans on gatherings of 50 or more people I can imagine you’re worried out of your mind. You’ve been planning your wedding day for months (or even a year or more) and now here we are in the midst of a world-wide crisis.
So, let’s talk about what you can do to ensure that your wedding goes off without a hitch – even if you have to downsize your guest list. It’s no secret that I love small weddings – and while big weddings are popular, the more intimate the gathering – I truly feel the more you will enjoy your day.
Take for example Amber and Glenn’s intimate backyard wedding. They had a select few guests (way less than 49…) and it was a sweet, touching and truly beautiful day. They got ready separately in the Amber’s parents house in Eau Claire and then had a first look in the yard together before walking down the aisle in-front of their parents, grandparents & siblings. You can see more of their images here.
Cut Your Guestlist
No really. If your wedding is currently before May 10, 2020 in Wisconsin you will have to cut your guest list to 49 guests or less. Believe me, I think that your guests will understand. But you might want to make a way for them to be there without actually being there. Send an email or postcard letting guests know that you will only be including your immediate family at your gathering.
Create a Facebook Group or Live Video
Want to include the remaining 151 guests on your original guest list? Create a Facebook Group for your wedding and/or a have a live video on Facebook and/or Instagram the day of your wedding live streaming so that all of your guests can be there remotely to clink a glass of champagne with you.
What if my venue closes or is shut down during this time?
It might be the case that the next step is that all restaurants & bars will be mandated closed in Wisconsin & Minnesota, too. Venues may fall under this grey area. What can you do?
You can reschedule with your venue to a later date (look at Friday or Sunday weddings if the Saturday dates are taken) instead of cancelling.
Revamp your thoughts and go for a backyard fete complete with a white tent, a small circle of chairs & a beautiful arbor.

I’m happy to help or be a resource if I can! I’m love small backyard weddings, intimate fetes and elopements. So if that is what is in the cards for you this year, believe me when I say I’m game! Feel free to reach out to me at christy@christyjphotography.com with questions!
I’m on a mission to craft personalized sessions for small businesses and high school seniors looking to tell their story.
The best decision I ever made was packing up my car and heading west to finally pursue photography! That decision allowed me to spend the next 15 years capturing life’s fleeting moments.
But the journey is bigger than that. My work isn’t just about capturing a beautiful photo, it’s about changing the perspective, helping others see what true beauty is.
It would be an honor to have you along for the ride!
