When it comes to wedding dessert, most people turn to the traditional route. But, what if you’re just not that into cake? Ice cream to the rescue! A couple weeks ago I chatted with Kayla & Blayne Midthun, owners of Ramone’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor in Eau Claire. Not only did we chat about how the dream to open an old fashioned ice cream parlor started – we talked about how they’re also offering on-site ice cream scooping for dessert at weddings!
Tell me about how Ramone’s got it’s start:
Ramone’s is part of our love story…In 2015, My husband, Blayne, and I were in Stillwater, MN celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. We took a riverboat cruise that included dinner. After our cruise, we were craving something sweet and set out to find dessert. We strolled downtown Stillwater and had the best malts at Leo’s Grill and Diner. As we enjoyed our malts, we talked about Eau Claire needing an ice cream parlor with malts. With all we saw happening in our Eau Claire’s downtown we thought that would be the perfect setting. It remained a dream, until we purchased the building at 503 Galloway in 2016. With much support and encouragement, we decided to open an old-fashioned ice cream parlor that would be a fun destination in downtown. We opened our doors in May 2017. We are really proud to own a business in our own hometown and hope to be a staple of the community for a long time to come.

How far in advance should couples book you for wedding dessert?
I would suggest booking at least 6 months in advance. However, we are always willing to check our calendar, even on short notice, to see if we can be part of a couple’s big day!

How many flavors can they choose? Can they test flavors?
We can serve up to eight flavors. We love sampling ice cream flavors with our bridal couples, so they can choose their favorites as well as flavors they think guests will enjoy. We are happy to offer many options for all types of dietary needs, including gluten free, dairy free, and vegan.

We are located downtown Eau Claire at 503 Galloway Street. You can contact us at catering@ramonesicecream.com to set up a tasting.
How to book, what do we need to do next to have Ramone’s at our wedding?
Start by sending an email with your date so I can confirm our availability. Once we have that cleared, I will need details such as the location of the event and number of guests. From there, I can work up a quote and we can discuss the options in more detail.
