Destination Engagement Photos in Eau Claire | Katie & DeForest

They met by chance on the app Whisper in mid 2013.  Chatting turned to texting which then turned to Skyping.  About 6 months after that first message it led to Katie boarding a plane to meet DeForest for the first time in Texas where he grew up.  DeForest led Katie on a scavenger hunt all around the city where he was waiting to serenade her and ask her out.  A friend (and eventual best man) filmed the whole thing!

Let me just say here… before I continue with their story.  If you think that is cute… just wait until you hear how DeForest proposed.

See, at the time they met Katie was living in Wisconsin and DeForest in Texas but then DeForest ended up taking a position in Maryland with the Frederick Keys while Katie is here in Green Bay finishing up her nursing degree.  So, they have this long-distance relationship thing down to a t!  They love simple dates – like mini golf and going out for Italian when they are together or if they aren’t they connect on FaceTime, make the same dinner and watch the same movie all while 900 miles away from each other.

So, when Katie was sitting in her apartment finishing up homework ready to be done in time for their FaceTime pizza date she got a text from DeForest saying he would be home soon (in Maryland, mind you) and then a knock on her door.  When she opened the door she found a vase of a dozen roses, three wrapped boxes and a note.  In the note he told her to open the boxes and meet him at an address he had written in the letter.  The first box had a pair of white wedges, the second a purple floral crown and purple nail polish and the third had a white dress.

Katie quickly got dressed, drove the 25 minutes and arrived at a little flower nursery.  She got out of the car, walked towards the garden and there was DeForest standing under a wooden trellis dressed up and waiting for her.  She says “when he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him, I felt like I couldn’t say yes fast enough.”

These two came into Eau Claire last week for some wedding planning goodness and I was one of the folks they happened to see 🙂  So glad the weather was perfect the night of their session, because we had one shot with DeForest living in Maryland and Katie in Green Bay!  Can’t wait until their day next October.
