Ten years ago on we were rushing to get ready, horses clipping along outside, bikes everywhere – she put on her makeup and curled her hair waiting to greet her groom up the hill at the butterfly house overlooking Lake Huron for their Mackinac Island wedding. It was then they realized the horse & buggy they had hired to get them to the ceremony wasn’t coming, so up that hill we ran, bouquets in hand to the ceremony. It was there that DiAnna & Jesse first spoke their vows in-front of a small group of family & friends. Since that time they spent on an island with no cars, where life slows down just a little bit – they’ve fallen in love with it and have chosen to vacation there every few years.
DiAnna & Jesse asked me just about two years ago now if on their 10th anniversary I would be up for a trip back to the island to help them celebrate & document their vow renewal. We couldn’t wait! It was such a lovely time – we arrived to the island the night before their vow renewal and were able to take in some sights and scope out where they would be sealing the deal for the second time. What a beautiful place, one that I cannot wait to go back to!
Surrounded by a very intimate group of family – DiAnna & Jesse brought themselves back to the day of their Mackinac Island wedding with beautiful words, smiles and a ton of abundant joy. After their celebration we walked to a small pub for lunch & cake to celebrate – and finally explore the island by horse & buggy (for real this time) and then on foot later to document some of their favorite places including The Grand Hotel, boardwalk & beach.
We recreated a photo that I had taken ten years ago in the same room, what a dream that was!
The harbor showing off the blue, blue waters of Lake Huron.
The spot where they first said their vows – inside the butterfly sanctuary ten years ago.
Notice the Mackinac bridge in the background?
