I spent an evening with Katie and Travis last week getting to know them and capturing a little bit about who they are as a couple, see these two met and fell head-over-heels and that just makes me so happy to photograph. Katie and I conversed for weeks about the locations that we were going to use for their engagement session and ultimately from day one Katie & Travis both wanted a beautiful backyard Barron, WI engagement session – so that’s what I gave them (and we stopped a couple of other places, too).
Katie & Travis met through mutual friends and adore golfing and kayaking, so when Katie’s last birthday rolled around Travis mentioned he had a surprise for her (which she thought was maybe a big kayak he was hiding somewhere). But as they sat on the deck of their new home drinking a glass of wine to celebrate her birthday he grabbed a lovely wooden box that had a stunning custom designed engagement ring inside of it and the next thing she knew Travis was down on his knee asking to spend her forever with him. Of course she said, YES! I also want to share a bit of Katie & Travis’ story with you in Katie’s words about her ring:
“Over the years my dad’s parents had given him a few sapphire pieces of jewelry for various milestones (graduation, deployment and a safe return). When he and my mom got engaged, they both wanted to incorporate sapphires into they’re own milestone of marriage and chose two sapphires and two diamonds for each side of the center stone. Two years later they had their first child, my sister, in the month of September, with the birthstone sapphire. Four years after that, they had me, in the month of April, with the birthstone diamond — my mom was able to have both her kids’ birthstones on her wedding ring. After 25 years of marriage, my dad upgraded my mom’s ring with the same center and side stones, only bigger, to celebrate another milestone. They had the side stones from the engagement ring made into rings for my sister and me (my something old and something blue).”
So in turn when Travis went to choose a ring for Katie he knew that it would be so very special to have a diamond and sapphire of her own, and set inside the bottom of her ring is a sapphire.
Katie and Travis are planning a lovely spring wedding next May and of course, I’m so happy that I’ll be there capturing every moment of that day, too.
I LOVE this little series of images, it just really shows how these two are together. LOVE it!
Travis’ 1970 Mach 1 Mustang had to make an appearance (and ya’ll know how much I loved this…. because I love old hot rods).
