It was the June of 2011 at a college house party in Salt Lake City, Utah where these two first met. A last minute decision to head to a party, turned out with Alex asking Susan for her number.
Last Friday, I met these two for the very first time and let me tell you, I felt like I had known them for years after the first 10 minutes. They welcomed me to their cabin for their Lake Chicog engagement session near Trego, WI.
The weather was threatening to cancel our plans… even making last minute phone calls to ensure that rain was not driving down. It ended up that we explored their piece of lake shore, meadows filled with flowers and the acres of property that are held so near and dear to these two.
I love good stories and these two have one of the best! Though they met in Salt Lake City – both finishing up school – they have spent much of their relationship travelling to see each other long-distance. Soon after they met, Susan spent a semester in Hawaii and the next thing they knew Alex was off to Colorado to take a job. From there it brought them to Madison where they both fell in love with the city and decided to make home (for now).
And Madison is where Alex proposed. He had asked Susan’s dad for her permission just days before, her dad keeping the secret held tight. Alex coaxed Susan out into the winter night to go skating in Vilas Park and on an empty rink Alex got down on one skate and pulled out a ring box. In just a few short weeks they’ll be welcoming their family and friends from near and far to the Enchanted Barn to celebrate their big day.
Jumping the water puddles together.
Utilizing some of the gorgeous wild flowers Susan’s mom planted around the cabins.
It was thundering, and we could see the storms rolling in over the hills just behind the cabin. It was eerie, still and beautiful.
The difference looking north vs. south! These were taken less than 2 minutes apart.
