Together for six years, Rachel & AJ were married this last weekend at St. Joseph Catholic Church & Turtleback Golf in Rice Lake, WI. They met while both attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. While in passing in a gym at the university they saw each other – and that was it for them! AJ was on the men’s basketball team, Rachel on the women’s volleyball team – and in that passing moment Rachel caught AJ’s eye. Just after classes began that year AJ reached out on Facebook and sent Rachel a message, which led to texting and then going on a date.
That led them to this moment on May 23, 2020. Though they planned to have a large celebration in the church with Bishop Powers officiating and dancing the night away with their bridal party, family & friends at Turtleback Golf – a few short months ago they called me to let me know that their plans had changed. With the help of their parents, and phone calls with Bishop Powers they decided to celebrate on their original date in the church. And let me tell you – it was so beautiful and full of all good things. Joy, happy tears, and so much more.
Rachel & AJ live streamed their wedding on a private Facebook group with the help of Rachel’s brother so that guests could be there in spirit even if they couldn’t celebrate with them that day – but will be ready to party next year! One of my favorite moments of the day was the surprise of a few family members & friends waiting to honk their horns & give congratulations to them in the church parking lot after the ceremony was done. So many tears – the good kind!
It really is hard for me to put their day into words – there was such a feeling surrounding the day. It had been my first wedding back since the pandemic started and the shutdowns began. The best way I feel that I can describe their day is through photos – so I invite you to scroll through them all.
I’m on a mission to craft personalized sessions for small businesses and high school seniors looking to tell their story.
The best decision I ever made was packing up my car and heading west to finally pursue photography! That decision allowed me to spend the next 15 years capturing life’s fleeting moments.
But the journey is bigger than that. My work isn’t just about capturing a beautiful photo, it’s about changing the perspective, helping others see what true beauty is.
It would be an honor to have you along for the ride!
