Wedding On Lake Superior

Ashley & James met nearly 15 years ago.  James had just graduated high school and Ashley was finishing up her senior year.  They say it was truly love at first sight.  Months ago (way back this spring) a few local vendors and I had a little dream of shooting a gorgeous wedding inspiration shoot on the shores of one of our Great Lakes which is where we came up with a wedding on Lake Superior for some inspiration.  When Ashley contacted me interested, it seemed like the perfect fit as these two are celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary this December.

Ashley & James were married just before Christmas in 2007 with sparkling lights, falling snow and the smell of fresh cut pine trees.  They even gave their guests Christmas ornaments to remember their day by.  Two years ago, James quietly took Ashley’s ring under the assumption of getting it cleaned and secretly had it redesigned and reset.  He surprised her with it on a yacht he rented for her birthday.

Our inspiration for the shoot was rooted in the thoughts of an elopement, just a small gorgeous fete on the shores of the lake with buttery light.  It would be soft, and romantic with a hint of moodiness brought through with watercolor.  The flowers would bring dusty greens with air plants and succulents, blush and creams in the flowers and driftwood to marry the two together beautifully.  We envisioned a sandy beach with driftwood, the waves softly lapping in.  It was all of this and more.  Lake Superior just seemed to be the perfect setting with it’s stunning cold, blue depths to serve as a reminder of how deep and wide love for one another can be.

Thank you not only to Ashley & James who became the heart of this shoot and brought our ideas to life but the vendors who had the beautiful ideas and brought their talents to the shoot.  It’s always a pleasure to work with each and every one of you.
